5-year-old Girl Still Critical; Stable After Dog Attack in Md.

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- The girl, who was attacked by at least one or more dogs has been stabilized, after being taken to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday evening in Charles County, Md., officials said Thursday morning.

The incident took place at a home in the 8600 block of Billingsley Road in Bennsville, MD.  The child, who was said to be in critical condition, was flown to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC.

The girl was supposed to be under the supervision of her mother's boyfriend at the time of the attack.  The boyfriend lost sight of her and later found her laying face down in the backyard where she had already been attacked, according to officials.

Charles County Animal Control has taken three dogs into custody.  A pit bull, a bulldog, and a cane corso are the breeds suspected to be involved in the attack.

Millions More Approved In Funding Silver Spring Transit Ctr.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- In Silver Spring the cost just keeps going up on that new transit center because of questionable work by the contractor. Now, the county executive is asking for even more.

At the county council meeting this morning, a unanimous vote by members has approved 7.5 million more in funding the Silver Spring Transit Center, a project which is already over budget.

However, just because they voted for it, does not mean they like doing it.

Once council member said, "The dollars that we approved today had nothing to do with fixing what needs to be fixed. As to who bears the responsibility for that, I am afraid that will ultimately be decided by the courts."

The county puts the blame solely on the contractor. But, the contractor blames the county for the delay.

Builder Blames Montgomery County For Transit Hub

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - The contractor that has overseen construction of the troubled Silver Spring Transit Center is blaming Montgomery County officials for problems that have plagued the project.

Bryant Foulger, a principal of the Foulger-Pratt Companies, says the county provided incomplete designs and inadequate oversight for building the $112 million bus-and-rail hub.

An engineering report found problems with the transit center, including concrete and steel reinforcement that's insufficiently strong. Three levels must bear the weight of large buses.

A county lawyer says Foulger-Pratt is trying to shift blame for defective construction onto the county.

It's not clear how much it will cost to fix the problems. The project is already two years behind schedule.

Metro would operate the complex but could reject the structure if it's not satisfied with the fixes.

New EPA Gas Plan Plus Maryland Gas Tax Equals Higher Prices for Drivers

(WUSA9) -- Do you like what you're paying for gas? Soon, these will be the good old days we reminisce about. Two new developments will hike up prices.

First, the EPA announced today they want to clean up gas, and put less sulfur in it. The White House says that will keep air cleaner, you healthier, and even save up to 2,400 lives a year.

The cost is up for debate.

President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency say it will only cost you about a penny more per gallon by 2017. But, opponents say it's probably going to be more like 8 or 9 cents.

Bill Becker heads up the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. He says the cost of the plan is worth it, "The oil industry is trying to scare the American people in order to delay or even rescind this rule when it shouldn't be."

Father Makes Emotional Plea Following Son's Murder

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9)-- It's been a week since 24-year old Paul Tanoh was gunned down outside a DC night club.

Police say it all happened last Thursday shortly after 2 A.M. outside Balletto's night club on the corner of L and 17th street in downtown D.C., just four blocks away from the White House.

When police got there Tanoh had been shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Now his father, Jean Raymond Tanoh is speaking exclusively to WUSA9, asking for police or anyone with information in son's murder to come forward and provide the closure he and his family need.

He said, "I want the truth to be able to mourn and move on. I want the truth. Who killed my son? Who killed my beautiful boy?"
