M.D. Gary Small To Discuss Brain Health In Silver Spring

On January 10, 2013  Dr. Gary Small, Professor of Psychiatry and Aging and Director of the UCLA Longevity Center at UCLA, will be visiting Riderwood retirement community to provide a free one-hour presentation regarding his revised paperback edition of THE ALZHEIMER’S PREVENTION PROGRAM: Keep Your Brain Healthy for the Rest of Your Life.  

The presentation will be held on January 10, at 1 p.m.,  in Riderwood’s Maryland Hall in Montgomery Station.  To reserve your free ticket, please call phone number 301-572-8395.  Books can be purchased with cash, check or credit card.  Refreshments will be served after the presentation.  Riderwood is located at 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904

METROPOLITAN FINE ARTS CENTER FEATURES NUTCRACKER;  DONATES TO MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION

Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. will present their annual Nutcracker performances on Sat., Dec. 1 and Sun., Dec. 2 at the Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center at the Annandale Campus. All tickets can be purchased online, with $1 of every ticket going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of MFAC’s former dance student, Emma Jordan, who lost her battle with cancer.  Nutcracker tickets can be purchased at www.metrofinearts.com.

The dance studio will also offer free Frosty Follies performances at:

This past weekend was a buzz with hundreds of D.C. area fashinoistas, stylists and bloggers at the Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle Expo (FBL) at The Washington Convention Center on Saturday.  FBL Expo is DC’s premier style and fashion extravaganza.

Long-time “America’s Next Top Model” runway coach J. Alexander, "Miss J" and Bravo RHODC/DC 50's Paul Wharton hosted multiple fashion shows featuring winter and spring styles and trends.

FBL also featured discount shopping, free makeovers for the first 250 people in line courtesy of Jon David Salon, endless coupons and a model search competition!

A 13-foot working blowdryer will be in D.C. and Md. until Sunday. Dubbed "Buttercup" this working yellow blowdryer is the official blowdryer of DryBar: the "all-blowout, no cut, no color hair destination opening in Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.

WHAT: Buttercup will be spotted all over the region, including acting as an installation at the Bethesda Row Arts Festival on Sunday, October 21.

Seniors Host Fashion Show Benefitting Alzheimer’s Disease Research

A dozen female models, volunteers ages 65 through 90, will walk the Fall Fashion Show runway Wed., Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Village’s Rosborough Cultural Arts and Wellness Center. The show benefits the Alzheimer’s Association, and afterwards, attendees can “shop” for modeled clothes and accessories.
