Occasionally Cake of Old Town Alexandria needs diapers as part of the Northern Virginia Family Service Diaper Drive. Customers can drop off diapers from Sat., May 4 through Mother’s Day, Sun., May 12, and be entered to win a Mommy and Me Cupcake Decorating Class, to be held on Tues., May 14 at 5 p.m. Three winners will be chosen from a raffle drawing.  Call (703) 647-9638 or visit www.occasionallycake.com for more information.

The Mommy and Me Cupcake decorating will be taught by owner, Sabrina Campbell, mom of two daughters and soon-to-be son. She will discuss cupcake decorating techniques, creativity and tips for parent and child.

The Presidential inauguration is just around the corner. Millions of people will be scrambling to see the President, the historical sites, and the food. Food plays a big role in any high-profile event, including the Presidential inauguration. As a result, many local restaurants will be making their Presidential picks for a feast fitting of the highest office in the land.

“Picking the Presidential meal is a fun and challenging task that we look forward to,” explains Ryan Fichter, Executive Chef of Thunder Burger. “In our pick, we wanted to incorporate a little of the President’s Hawaiian roots. We think this is a meal that the First Family would enjoy, as well as those looking for an authentic inauguration meal.”

Washington, D.C.- Jeannie "Kitty of the City” Jones, media personality of WPGC 95.5/Fox 5 News and Ready Set Impact, a multi-media company, hosted  “Grant My Wish” holiday event with her Grant My Wish Foundation December 21st  through the 23rd.  

This weekend long event began on Friday and featured a 24 hour drive at the 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue Starbucks  along with WPGC their radio partner. Rapper T.I. made a special appearance along with US Marines to assist with the toy collection.

On January 10, 2013  Dr. Gary Small, Professor of Psychiatry and Aging and Director of the UCLA Longevity Center at UCLA, will be visiting Riderwood retirement community to provide a free one-hour presentation regarding his revised paperback edition of THE ALZHEIMER’S PREVENTION PROGRAM: Keep Your Brain Healthy for the Rest of Your Life.

METROPOLITAN FINE ARTS CENTER FEATURES NUTCRACKER;  DONATES TO MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION

Metropolitan Fine Arts Center (MFAC) of Alexandria and Fairfax Station, Va. will present their annual Nutcracker performances on Sat., Dec. 1 and Sun., Dec. 2 at the Northern Virginia Community College, Ernst Cultural Center at the Annandale Campus. All tickets can be purchased online, with $1 of every ticket going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in memory of MFAC’s former dance student, Emma Jordan, who lost her battle with cancer.  Nutcracker tickets can be purchased at www.metrofinearts.com.

The dance studio will also offer free Frosty Follies performances at:
