Friends of the Library, Montgomery County Receives Prestigious Goldstein Award | Events
From Montgomery County:
Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC) will receive the prestigious Wayne Goldstein Award bestowed by the Montgomery County Civic Federation (MCCF). The award recognizes outstanding public service contributions by an individual or group in Montgomery County. Instituted in 1984 by the Journal Newspaper, in 2010 the award was renamed in honor of Past President Wayne Goldstein who passed away suddenly in 2009.
The awards banquet will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville from 6 to 9 p.m. At-large Councilmember Hans Riemer will present the award to Friends of the Library, Montgomery County at the awards ceremony.
"Friends of the Library has been leading the charge to restore funding to the county library system,” said Riemer. “Libraries are an invaluable community resource for children and parents, seniors and the jobless, community groups and anyone looking to fuel their imagination. They deserve recognition for their outstanding organizing and advocacy efforts and I urge them on in these final hours of budget negotiations. I strongly support their call to action -- libraries matter, no more cuts."
