Armed Carjacking Suspect Arrested, Linked By Fingerprints

SIlVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) - A man has been arrested on armed carjacking charges after his fingerprints were matched to those found on the victim's vehicle, according to Montgomery County Police.

Marcus Antonio Curry is charged with 12 crimes, including armed carjacking,
armed robbery, first degree assault, kidnapping, and numerous gun

Curry, who was wearing a DC Pre-Trial Services ankle bracelet equipped with
GPS, turned himself in to investigators on Sept. 21. His GPS information placed him in the area of an August 6 robbery.

On that date at 5:50 a.m., officers responded to the parking lot of 13313 Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring for the report of an armed robbery.  A victim, 46, had been sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot when Curry approached the victim's vehicle, pointed a handgun at the victim, and demanded money.

The victim gave him money and the suspect stated, "Let's go to the bank to get more money." Curry then entered the rear passenger door, placed a gun to the back of the victim's head and told the victim not to turn around. The victim was ordered to drive to a bank and the suspect began to give driving directions.

At the corner of Fairland Road and Copland Road in the Calverton area of Silver Spring, Curry left the vehicle with the victim's cell phone and told the victim to drive away from the area. The victim saw Curry throw the victim's cellular phone and then take off running down the street. The victim drove a short distance, returned to retrieve his cell phone and called police. Officers tried to find the suspect but he was not located.

The victim's vehiclewas processed for latent prints and DNA. Prints were sent to a regional fingerprint database (RAFIS) and police received a match to Curry.

Curry is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on $300,000 bond.
