SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- With maintenance and construction underway this spring and zone-related crashes on the rise, Governor Larry Hogan has declared April work zone safety month.

Safety partners would like to remind drivers to be aware when orange cones or barrels are on the road.

In a news release sent out Thursday, the State Highway Administration encourages drivers to drive slow and stay alert in work zones.
